Characterization and Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Surface Sediments From Jian and Moyang Rivers in Western Guangdong

The river environment is complex and receives a variety of contaminants from numerous sources that are persistent, bioaccumulative, toxic. distribution, source, contamination, ecological risk status Zn, Pb, Cu, Ni, Cr, Cd were evaluated in the surface sediments at 45 sites on Moyang Jian rivers Western Guangdong, China. Single pollution indices, including contamination factor (CF) enrichment (EF), revealed showed moderate to significant enrichment. To overcome limitation single element range sediment quality modified index (mCd), (PI), (MPI), utilized ascertain quality. study area deemed be slightly extremely polluted. guidelines (SQGs), potential (RI), (MRI) used assess possible risks. According SQGs, Cu have induce biological effects. RI indicated poses low risk. However, MRI was very high. accuracy multi-element indices assessment using principal component analysis (PCA) cluster (CA), showing an anthropogenic impact. Results demonstrate need pay attention small rivers, which sensitive their surroundings.
